A former employee of a sandwich shop is suing over claims she was fired despite favorable job performance reviews.

Janice Fiola filed a lawsuit June 5 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Potbelly Sandwich Works LLC, doing business as Potbelly Sandwich Shop, alleging age and sex discrimination.

According to the complaint, Fiola was employed by Potbelly as a zone real estate manager, a position in which she claims she excelled and exceeded company goals in. She claims she was fired on July 24 on the false basis of poor job performance, even though had received favorable reviews before and was told "she had not done anything wrong."

The suit alleges younger, male employees took over Fiola's duties following her termination.

Fiola is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Glenn R. Gaffney of Gaffney & Gaffney P.C. in Glendale Heights.
