Woman blames South Shore Hospital, staff for mother's death

Alroth

South Shore Hospital and others are being sued after a patient died from cardiac arrest.

Barbarett Corbbins, as administrator of the Estate of Roxanne Hoard, filed a wrongful death lawsuit June 10 in the Cook County Circuit Court against South Shore Hospital Corp., registered nurse Angela Tolbert and Drs. James B. Achebe and Marian Uriarte.

According to the suit, Hoard went to South Shore Hospital's emergency department on Nov. 3, 2012, complaining of having shortness of breath. Corrbins claims the defendants failed to treat Hoard for pneumonia after a chest x-ray indicated she had it, failed to transfer her to the ICU when her blood oxygen levels fell dangerously low and failed to order a consultation from a critical care medicine physician, resulting in her death.

Corbbins is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is being represented by Chicago attorney Deborah A. Alroth of Cirignani Heller & Harman LLP.
