A Chicago condominium association and some of its board members are being accused of slandering a resident in a dispute over repair payment.
Dolores J. Sanchez filed a lawsuit June 12 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Ingleside Manor Condominium Association, Carol Rancifer Gearring, Eric O. Clark, Sarah M. Adams and David L. Rudolph.
According to the suit, Sanchez used board funds to pay a contractor to repair her unit and other areas damaged in 2008 by broken and leaking pipes. She claims the contractor never did the work and the board sought reimbursement of board funds from her, leading to the filing of $11,700 lien, plus costs and attorney’s fees.
The dispute was settled, but Sanchez contends the lien was never removed, causing a mark on her reputation.
Sanchez is seeking damages in excess of $6M, plus court costs, and is represented by Dale L. Smirl of Burch & Associates in Chicago.
