Tenant slaps landlord with premises liability suit over staircase fall

A Cook County woman is suing her landlord, claiming she was injured on the staircase of her apartment building.

Blair Savage filed a lawsuit May 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Clarence Collins III, alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, Savage was a tenant in Collins' apartment building on South Essex Avenue in Chicago on Aug. 3, when she fell down the stairs leading from her apartment. She claims Collins failed to provide proper lighting and tread on the stairs.

Savage is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Kevin B. Apter of Lipkin & Higgins.
