Chicago property owners hit with suit by man who alleges he fell on staircase

Scales

A man is suing two Chicago property owners, claiming he was injured on their staircase.

Daniel Negrete filed a lawsuit June 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Mario and Bertha Martinez, alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, Negrete was descending a wooden staircase on the defendants' property on South Homan Avenue in Chicago on Aug. 15, 2012, when his foot struck on a rotting board and caused him to fall.

Negrete claims the light above the staircase was not working and there was no handrail, which led to him to fall and sustain injuries.

He is seeking damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limit and is being represented in the case by attorneys at John B. Schwartz & Associates in Chicago.
