Suit alleges driver hit woman crossing street in wheelchair

A woman claims she was hit by a vehicle while she attempted to cross a Chicago street in her wheelchair.

Babette Peyton filed suit June 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Laura U. Andrews.

According to the complaint, Peyton was crossing 79th Street on a Halsted Street sidewalk in her wheelchair on June 16, 2012, when a vehicle, driven by Andrews, turned right at the intersection and hit her. 

Peyton claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries as a result of the accident. She accuses Andrewsof failing to control her vehicle, exercise a reasonable degree of caution, keep a sufficient lookout, yield to pedestrians and warn pedestrians she was entering the intersection.

Peyton is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is being represented by attorney David A. Warnick of Brustin & Lunblad Ltd.
