Man blames doctors, nurses for alleged injuries following knee surgery

An allegedly botched knee surgery has led to a lawsuit.

Joseph Campbell and Sabrina Wilson-Campbell filed suit July 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against Drs. Mark Gonzalez, Nancy Burk, Frank Bohnenkamp and Matthew Simmons, as well as nurses Deborah Butler and Anne-Marie Marrs.

According to the complaint, Joseph Campbell was admitted to the University of Illinois Medical Center on April 25, 2013 for right knee surgery, which the defendants performed.

The next day, Joseph claims, he began complaining of left hip and lower back pain, as well as an inability to move his left foot. He alleges that as a result of the defendants' failure to take proper safety measures during his surgery, he developed acute compartment syndrome and a focal compression injury, which required surgery on April 27.

The suit accuses the defendants of medical negligence and includes a loss of consortium count on behalf of Joseph's wife.

The Campbells are seeking damages and are represented by Chicago attorneys Catherine J. Merrill and Lisa M. Ciharan of the Law Office of Cy Weiner.
