The father of a teenaged boy who died at a swimming pool last year is suing the city's park district, claiming it failed to properly train its lifeguards.

John Wilson, as special administrator of the Estate of Christopher James Wilson formerly known as Christopher James Bowen, filed a wrongful death lawsuit July 28 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Park District.

According to the complaint, Wilson's son died at the McKinley Park Pool on West Pershing Road in Chicago on April 9, 2013.

He accuses the defendant of failing to properly train lifeguards, who allegedly didn't monitor the swimming area or render aid when his son was in danger.

Wilson is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Richard J. Murphy of Costello, McMahon, Burke & Murphy Ltd. in Chicago.
