Rich South High School, district hit with claim over broken sidewalk

A woman is suing over claims she was injured on an uneven sidewalk outside a school.

Shanya Childress filed a lawsuit Aug. 4 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Rich Township High School District 227 and Rich South High School, alleging willful and wanton conduct.

According to the complaint, Childress was exiting Rich South High School on Sauk Trail in Richton Park on Aug. 20, 2013, when she tripped on a broken sidewalk in front of the high school and sustained an injury to her knee that required surgery.

Childress is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney John T. Cichon of Polansky & Cichon Chtd. in Chicago.
