Diabetic woman blames doctor for switching insulin meds

Fisher

A woman is suing over claims she became ill after her diabetes medication was altered.

Camille Pritchett filed a medical negligence lawsuit July 28 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Bonnie Thomas, individually and as agent of Woodlawn Health Center, and Cook County on behalf of the health center.

The suit includes an alternative pleading against Walgreen Co. for pharmaceutical negligence.

According to the complaint, Thomas, as Pritchett's doctor, altered her medication prescription March 30, 2012 by decreasing her insulin, and again July 26, 2012 by changing her insulin.

Pritchett claims she became severely ill after the change and suffered from a diabetic ketoacidosis. She was unaware of the acts of negligence until September 2012, when she was informed of a medical error while at a different hospital, the suit states.

In her alternative pleading, Pritchett accuses Walgreen Co. of filing the wrong prescription and failing to warn her of the dangers of switching from long-acting to short-acting insulin.

Pritchett is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Erron H. Fisher of Fisher & Lamonica P.C. in Chicago.
