A Cook County nightclub is asking a judge to reverse the city's decision to revoke its liquor license and force it to close its doors for a week.

Hearts Partnership LLC filed a complaint for declaratory judgment Aug. 8 in the Cook County Circuit Court Chancery Division against the City of Chicago, the city's Local Liquor Control Commission and Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, as well as Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Gregory Steadman as commissioner of the city's Local Liquor Control Commission.

According to the complaint, the Local Liquor Control Commission revoked the plaintiff's liquor license for Hearts Night Club on North Branch Street in Chicago based on allegations of weapons violations stemming from a shooting inside the establishment on Aug. 8 and a shooting in the parking lot on Aug. 6.

The plaintiff claims that the order requiring the prohibition of alcohol sales and the business to be closed for a week is without foundation or due process, as the Aug. 6 incident occurred in a parking lot not owned by the establishment between people not known to be patrons of the nightclub and the other incidents have not resulted in the conviction of any Hearts patrons.
