Tenant blames apartment owner, manager for slip on backed up water

Scales

A Chicago woman last month filed a lawsuit over claims she was injured after slipping on water that had backed up onto the kitchen floor of her apartment.

Angela Sneed filed a lawsuit July 15 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Rebecca Walker Complex LP and Affordable Property Management Specialists LLC, alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, Sneed was a resident in the defendants' apartment building on West Quincy Street in Chicago on Sept. 3, 2012, when she walked into her kitchen and slipped on water that had backed up onto her floor.

Sneed claims she asked management to rectify the situation before that day, and accuses them of failing to maintain or fix the plumbing problem.

She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Jeffrey S. Deutschman of Deutschman & Associates P.C. in Chicago.
