Suit: Doctor pierced patient's aorta during surgery

A man is suing a doctor who he claims pierced his aorta during surgery.

Jeffrey S. Goldberg filed a lawsuit Aug. 8 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. M. Scott Peckler and North Suburban Surgical Consultants LLC.

According to the complaint, Goldberg underwent a laparoscopic hernia-repair operation at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where Peckler penetrated his aorta while performing the procedure.

He accuses Peckler of being negligent and North Suburban Surgical Consultants of failing to supervise Peckler.

Goldberg is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney David W. Hepplewhite in Chicago.
