Customer's slip in bread aisle spurs suit against Ultra Foods

Statham

A grocery store customer is suing after slipping in the bread aisle.

Kimberlyn Myers filed a lawsuit Aug. 22 in the Cook County Circuit Court against SVT LLC, doing business as Ultra Foods, and Ultra Foods.

According to the complaint, Myers was at the defendants' store at 571 W. 14th St. in Chicago Heights on Aug. 25, 2012, when she slipped on water on the floor near the bread aisle and sustained serious injuries.

Myers claims the defendants failed to warn customers of the spill, didn’t maintain the floor in a safe manner, didn’t place cones around the spill and failed to follow its own policy regarding spill cleanups.

She is seeking damages to cover past and future medical expenses, past and future pain and suffering and past and future disability, plus court costs.

David A. Statham of Newman, Boyer & Statham Ltd. in Chicago is representing Myers.
