Doctors hit with med-mal suit over complications with vein surgery

A Cook County man is suing a over claims he was injured during varicose vein surgery.

Piotr Kozielski filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Aug. 19 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Drs. Henryk Baraniewski and Donald Cheatem.

According to the suit, Kozielski underwent a surgical procedure, known as microstripping of varicose veins, performed by Baraniewski and Cheatem on Aug. 20, 2012.

Kozielski claims he reported testicular pain and swelling on Aug. 22 and Aug. 27, but that Baraniewski failed to order any medical treatment, only calling for a follow-up in one week. He went to the University of Illinois Hospital at Chicago emergency room on Aug. 31, 2012, when he underwent an immediate orchiectomy.

Kozielski is seeking damages and is being represented in the case by Thomas G Gardiner, John R. Wrona and Micah J. Hughes of Gardiner, Koch, Weisberg & Wrona in Chicago.
