Woman accuses apartment owners of negligence after cutting her foot in puddle

Scales

A woman is suing the owners of her Chicago apartment complex, where she claims she cut her foot taking out the trash.

Rachael Morgan filed a lawsuit Aug. 18 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Urban Property Advisors LLC, New Evergreen Sedgwick LP, Evergreen Towers II LLC and Cullen J. Davis.

The lawsuit states Morgan left her apartment at 1300 N. Sedgwick St. to dispose of trash in the complex’s common area on April 20, when her foot was cut on a sharp object in a puddle she stepped in, leading to an infection that required surgery.

She accuses the defendants of failing to keep the area clean of debris, section off the area where the puddle formed, inspect and keep the area and sewer clean.

Morgan is suing for damages in excess of $30,000 and is represented by Deerfield attorney Bruce Rafalson.
