Daughter blames St. Bernard Hospital, staff for mother's death

A Cook County woman is suing over claims her mother died after emergency room staff failed to recognize cardiac irregularities.

Tiesheia Brown, as independent administrator of the Estate of Sherea Brown, filed a wrongful death lawsuit July 31 in the Cook County Circuit Court against St. Bernard Hospital, Drs. Christopher Colbert and Fred Lepore and registered nurses Martise Morgan and Marissa Montiflor-Langit.

According to the complaint, Sherea was taken to St. Bernard Hospital's emergency room by ambulance for shortness of breath on Aug. 2, 2012, and was not seen for triage assessment for more than 40 minutes.

Brown claims when Montiflor-Langit finally performed an assessment, she was unable to obtain Sherea's blood pressure. She further accuses the defendants of failing to properly recognize cardiac irregularities and treat Sherea, who died that same day.

Brown is seeking damages and is being represented in the case by attorneys Michael S. Shinsky and Erin R. Doyle of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
