A woman is suing the owner of hotel in downtown Chicago, where she claims tripped on a curb because an employee distracted her.
Mary Hansen filed a lawsuit Aug. 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against Marriott International Inc., Courtyard Management Corp. and Chicago Downtown Courtyard by Marriott, also known as Courtyard Chicago Downtown River North.
According to the complaint, Hansen was attending a meeting held by the nutritional beverage company she worked for at the defendants' hotel on East Hubbard Street in Chicago on Aug. 17, 2013.
Hansen, who walks with a cane, claims a hotel employee met her at the sidewalk, where she exiting a taxi, and instructed her to follow her. The employee held her attention by talking as they walked toward the hotel entrance until Hansen tripped over a curb, the suit states.
The defendants are accused of failing to properly mark the curb or provide proper markings to warn guests of the danger.
Hansen is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is represented by attorney Patricia E. Bender in Chicago.
