The mother of a man who died nearly two weeks after getting punched has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her son's alleged attacker and a suburban Cook County bar.
Debra Flannigan, independent administrator of the Estate of Ryan T. Flannigan, filed a lawsuit Sept. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Michael Platt and Trazom Inc., doing business as Pop's Bar and Grill, citing wrongful death.
According to the complaint, Ryan Flannigan was at Pop's Bar and Grill on North Bothwell Street in Palatine on July 18, when Platt attacked him without provocation outside the bar's entrance, punching him in the head and causing injuries that led to his July 28 death.
The suit accuses the owner of the bar of violating the state's Dram Shop Act, as well as negligence, and includes battery and wrongful death counts against Platt.
Flannigan is represented by Cavanagh Law Group of Chicago.
The case number is Cook County Circuit Court case 2014L009336.
