Suit: Pothole threw cyclist off bike on Halsted Avenue

A cyclist is suing the city, claiming a pothole in a designated bike lane left him with injuries.

Arthur Tapia filed suit Sept. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court accusing the City of Chicago of being negligent in maintaining the bike lane.

According to the complaint, Tapia was riding his bike in the bicycle lane on South Halsted Avenue on Sept. 30, 2013, when his bike hit a pothole and threw him from the bike.

Tapia is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is represented by attorney Mark G. Basile of Basile Law Firm in Chicago.
