Slip on construction materials near sidewalk spurs lawsuit

Coffman

A Michigan woman is suing over claims she was injured when she slipped on construction materials allegedly left near the sidewalk.

Cecelia and Louis N. Rassey filed a premises liability lawsuit Sept. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against MC Construction Group, Middlefork Development, doing business as 2055 N. Fremont, Laughill Construction Inc., and Andrew C. Boyer.

According to the complaint, Cecelia Rassey was walking on the sidewalk in front of her son's house, which was next door to the defendant companies' construction site on North Fremont Street, after a family gathering on July 20, 2013.

Rassey says the defendants had blocked off sidewalk access without posting any permits proving the blocked access was legal, and when she stepped off the curb to reach her car, slipped on construction materials left on the ground and fell, sustaining injuries.

The plaintiffs are represented by Brian W. Coffman of Coffman Law Offices in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2014L009892.
