An area law firm is suing over claims a client has failed to pay a $120,000-plus legal bill.
Lawrence, Kamin, Saunders & Uhlenhop LLC filed a breach of contract lawsuit Oct. 1 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Kari Blunda, Clinton Mahoney as trustee of the Mahoney & Associates Trust and 237 East Ontario LLC.
According to the complaint, Blunda retained the plaintiff firm on behalf of Mahoney & Associates Trust and 237 East Ontario in December 2013 for representation in two Cook County court cases, but stopped paying for after two retainers and one payment.
The firm claims it notified Blunda of the outstanding invoices on April 25, and she answered the following day that she could not pay. At the time, Blunda was the sole trustee of Mahoney trust, later resigning, and the managing member of 237 East Ontario.
The firm is seeking the more than $123,400 it claims is owed, plus interest, and is represented by its own attorneys, Charles J. Risch and Raymond E. Saunders.
