A widower is suing the city, claiming his wife died after paramedics failed to transport her to hospital following their response to a 911 call.
Charles Sneed, as special administrator of the Estate of Leathia Hayes, filed a wrongful death lawsuit Oct. 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Chicago.
According to the complaint, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or paramedics working for the city responded to a call seeking emergency services for Hayes at her residence on South Christian Avenue on Sept. 12.
Sneed claims in his suit that the EMTs were informed or should have known about Hayes's history of epilepsy and head trauma, but left without transporting her to the hospital, an act that led to Hayes' death.
Sneed is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Michael J. Gravlin of Michael J. Gravlin LLC in Chicago.
