Corner Bakery Cafe faces complaint over customer's trip

A customer of Corner Bakery Cafe is suing, claiming she was injured after tripping in its Michigan Avenue location.

Alice Wechter filed a premises liability lawsuit Oct. 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against CBC Restaurant Corp., doing business as Corner Bakery Cafe.

According to the complaint, Wechter was at the Corner Bakery Cafe on the city's Near North Side on July 24, 2013, when she tripped over an obstruction in a designated pathway in the restaurant. The defendant company is accused of being negligent in failing to maintain its premises in a safe condition for customers or warn them of the danger.

Wechter is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, plus costs of suit, and is represented by attorney Gayle Weinberg Kalmin of The Law Offices of Gayle Weinberg in Chicago.
