A customer of a suburban department store is suing, claiming she slipped on shelving paper that was negligently left on the floor.

Julian and Ronald Johnson filed a premises liability lawsuit Oct. 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Sears Roebuck and Co.

According to the complaint, Julian Johnson was shopping at the Sears in Fox Valley Shopping Mall in Aurora on Oct. 24, 2012, when she slipped on "slippery paper used to line the merchandise display shelves" that was on the floor and fell, sustaining injuries to her back and knees.

She accuses Sears of being negligent by allowing the paper to remain on the floor and failing to maintain the premises in a safe condition for its customers. Ronald Johnson is suing for loss of consortium.

The Johnsons are seeking more than $30,000 in damages and are represented by attorney David H. McCarthy III of Naperville.
