A Chicago law firm is suing over claims it has been not paid for defending a DuPage County company in a lawsuit.

Johnson & Bell filed a lawsuit Oct. 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Scott and Raymond Veselik, and Midwest Capital Financial Group Inc., alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the defendants retained the plaintiff to defend them in the lawsuit, North American Company for Life and Health Insurance v. Scott Veselik, Raymond Veselik, Anne Veselik and Burr Ridge Bank and Trust Company.

Johnson & Bell claims it fulfilled the conditions of the agreement and on Feb. 18, the defendants signed a promissory note setting forth a payment plan consisting of quarterly payments.

The defendants, however, have missed the first two quarterly payments, which were due May 1 and Aug. 1, and currently owe more than $108,400 in legal fees and costs, according to the suit.

Johnson & Bell is seeking the amount it asserts is owed, plus interest, attorney fees and costs. It is represented by its own attorneys, Joseph R. Marconi and Ann E. Zipfel.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2014L010878.
