A woman is suing a Morton Grove podiatrist over foot injuries she claims were caused from a series of allegedly negligent surgeries.

Marion Townson filed a lawsuit Oct. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Garo Emerzian, alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, Townson sought treatment for a bunion and developing hammertoe from Emerzian on Oct. 9, 2012 and he recommended surgery. She underwent surgery, which included the installation of screws and wires, on Oct. 31, 2012.

Townson alleges that the surgery caused part of her toe to become displaced and raised, requiring further surgery on Nov. 26, 2012. The second surgery, she contends, included the removal of current and installation of new, permanent screws and wires, which improperly extended through a joint, requiring a third surgery March 18, 2013.

The suit states Emerzian removed the permanent wires and recommended physical therapy. As a result of the surgeries, Townson claims she sustained injuries, including severe shortening of a metatarsal bone, as well as bone loss, severe arthritis and loss of the use of her left foot.

Townson is being represented by attorney Daniel K. Touhy of Chicago.
