A man is suing over claims he was injured at a Vernon Hills fitness facility when he tripped over an electrical cord.

Gary Belot, also known as Genaddy Belotserkovsky, and Ilona Belot filed a lawsuit Oct. 22 in the Cook County Circuit Court against LTF Club Operations Co., doing business as Life Time Fitness, also known as Life Time Athletic.

According to the complaint, Gary Belot was at the defendant's facility on Woodlands Parkway in Vernon Hills on July 25, 2013, when he tripped over a loose electrical cord blocking the walkway between exercise equipment.

Belot claims he sustained injuries and accuses the defendant of being negligent by leaving cords blocking walkways and failing to cordon off the tripping hazards or post adequate warning signs. Belot's wife, Ilona Belot, is suing for loss of consortium.

The Belots are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are represented by attorney Alexander M. Tolmatsky of Northbrook.
