Schaumburg restaurant faces lawsuit over customer's trip

A man is suing a Schaumburg restaurant, claiming its negligence led him to trip and fall down a set of stairs.

Steven DeRienzo filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on Dec. 1, citing negligence in care by the staff and owners of Village Tavern & Grill Inc..

The claim states DeRienzo was at Village Tavern & Grill on West Wise Road on June 13, 2013, when he tripped on an uneven transition from tile to carpet and fell down the stairs. He alleges he suffered broken bones, along with other internal and external injuries, and has lost wages and incurred medical bills while treating those injuries.

DeRienzo seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus court fees, is represented by attorney Jason E. Hammond of Salvato & O’Toole Chicago.
