A suburban mall is suing a retail company well known for its women's wear and bridal gowns, claiming it abandoned its space before the lease ended and still owes more than $725,000 in rent and other costs.

Woodfield Mall LLC filed a breach of contract suit Nov. 26 in Cook County Circuit Court on Nov. 26 against Jessica McClintock Inc.

According to the complaint, the defendant abandoned space in the Woodfield Mall in  Schaumburg in August 2013 even though the parties' lease was set to run from February 2009 to May 2017.

Pointing to the time the space sat vacant and offsets in rent it had to offer for short term leases, the mall contends it sustained nearly $1.5 million in damages as a result of the defendants' breach of contract.

Woodfield Mall seeks more than $725,000 in damages, plus court costs and attorneys fees. It is represented by John A. Terselic of Swanson, Martin & Bell in Chicago.
