A Georgia professor is suing an elevator company over claims he was injured on an elevator in a Chicago hotel.
James Oloya, an assistant professor at the University of Georgia, filed suit Dec. 3, 2014, in Cook County Circuit Court against Otis Elevator Co. and Marriott Hotel Service Inc.
According to the complaint, Oloya was riding an elevator at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Hotel down from the 44th floor to the 5th floor on Dec. 4, 2012, when the elevator began to free fall and then come to an immediate stop just before the 9th floor, causing him to sustain injuries.
Oloya accuses Otis Elevator of failing to properly maintain the elevators and the hotel company of failing to inspect and test the elevator, which the suit contends would have ensured it was in working order.
He seeks costs to cover the damages of his injuries and is represented by The Horowitz Law Group in Chicago.
