A Shannon resident is suing a dentist she claims removed her wrong tooth during a procedure.

Teresa Lutz filed suit Jan. 27 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Stephen Spyrison, who she went to on Jan. 29, 2013 for treatment of an infected tooth.

According to the complaint, Spyrison performed a tooth extraction on Jan. 31, 2013, during which time Lutz alleges her wrong tooth was extracted and her gums were torn. She also claims he used a new anesthetic on her that was not strong enough to prevent her from feeling pain.

Lutz accuses Spyrison of failing to obtain adequate history prior to treatment, extracting a tooth without determining the extent of infection and not maintaining and following up on her condition.

As a result of Spyrison's alleged negligence, Lutz contends she experienced excruciating pain, suffered emotional stress and incurred medical costs associated with having to go to a new dentist.

Lutz is represented by Robert J. Smoler of Smoler Law Office.
