The former Bolingbrook cop convicted of murdering his third wife in 2012 is now facing charges he tried to have the prosecutor who put him behind bars killed.
Documents provided by the Illinois Attorney General's office show Drew Peterson was charged Monday with trying to hire someone to kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow.
The charges --solicitation of murder for hire and solicitation of murder -- were brought by Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy R. Walker.
The two Class X Felony counts span less than two pages and don't provide many details, except for accusing Peterson of procuring "Individual A" to "find another to kill James Glasgow" in exchange for money.
Peterson is currently serving a 38-year prison sentence in Menard Correctional Center, which is located in Randolph County, and has a projected release date of 2050, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections' website.
Peterson, who celebrated his 61st birthday last month, was convicted of murdering Kathleen Savio, his third wife, in 2012 following a trial that featured the first use of a new hearsay law commonly referred to as Drew's Law.
Tailored for Peterson's trial, this law allowed for the use of hearsay statements in a way that let Savio and Peterson's fourth wife, Stacey, who went missing in 2007 and is presumed dead, to talk from their graves, so to speak, through the testimony of their family and friends.
The investigation into Peterson and his trial dominated headlines and cable television at the time. The case was later turned into a Lifetime movie in which Rob Lowe played Peterson.
