A Cook County woman is suing a group of medical providers, claiming she sustained injuries when a screw was improperly positioned during a procedure.
Blanca Garcia filed a suit Jan. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Drs. Kevin M. Jackson and Stavros Maltezos, as well as Lakeview Neurosurgery and Advocate Healthcare, doing business as Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.
According to the complaint, Garcia had surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital on Feb. 21, 2007, when the defendants improperly placed a screw in the her lower back and failed to fix it.
She claims she had further imaging studies done by another physician in March 2009, when the screw’s wrong position was revealed.
Garcia alleges post-operative pain, disability, medical expenses and seeks damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented by attorney Bryan J. O’Connor of O’Connor Law Group in Chicago.
