A Michigan couple is suing a suburban resort over claims an elevator door left a woman injured.

Cassandra and Keith Malcolmson of Royal Oak filed suit Feb. 9 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Pheasant Run Inc., Pheasant Run II Inc., Pheasant Run Resort Operating-Holding Co. Inc., Interstate Servicer Management LLC, doing business as Pheasant Run Resort, Saint Charles Resort LLC and Otis Elevator Co.

According to the complaint, Cassandra Malcolmson and her family members and friends were guests of the resort, at 4051 E. Main St. in St. Charles, on May 24, 2013. She claims the elevator door closed on her when she entered the elevator to go to her eighth-floor room, causing injuries to her right shoulder.

She accuses the defendants of failing to properly inspect and maintain the elevator door sensors and mechanisms.

Cassandra Malcolmson seeks compensation for pain, medical costs and surgical treatment while her husband, Keith, seeks compensation under loss of consortium counts.

The plaintiffs are represented by Arlington Heights attorney Jeffrey E. Martin.
