A Canadian woman is suing a Chicago-based hotel and resort business, claiming she sustained injuries when the restaurant chair she was sitting in broke.
Fran Cimino, of Alberta, filed suit Feb. 9 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Lowe Enterprise Inc. and Destination Hotels and Resorts Inc., both individually and doing business as MileNorth Hotel at 166 E. Superior St.
She claims that on August 22, 2013, while she was on the outdoor patio at the hotel's restaurant, the chair she was sitting in broke, causing her to fall to the ground and sustain injuries.
Cimino claims it was the defendants' responsibility to maintain the restaurant furniture's safety standards and to advise her of the chair’s unstable condition, but failed to do so. She alleges severe injury and suffering, diminished bodily function and hefty medical bills.
The plaintiff seeks $50,000 in damages, plus costs, and is represented by J. Thomas Chute of TurcyChute LLC in Chicago.
