A woman is suing a retail giant, claiming its failure to maintain a suburban Cook County store caused her to slip and fall over a weather mat.

Maxine Floyd filed suit Feb. 10 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., doing business as the Walmart Supercenter, and various unknown employees and agents of the store.

According to the complaint, Floyd was at the Walmart 167th Street in the City of Country Club Hills on Jan. 21, 2014, when she slipped and fell over wet weather mats, causing her to sustain injuries.

She accuses the defendants of failing to maintain the premises and ensure the mats were in a reasonably safe condition as well as not warning her about the dangerous condition.

She seeks more than $50,000 in damages and is represented by Samuel E. Adam, Lisa M. Taylor and Jesse Gonzalez of Henderson Adam LLC in Chicago.

This is a report on a civil lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court. The details in this report come from an original complaint filed by a plaintiff. Please note that a complaint represents an accusation by a private individual, not the government. It is not an indication of guilt and represents only one side of the story.
