A couple is suing a retail giant for millions over claims the store's failure to provide proper security allowed a woman to be assaulted and robbed.

Cheryl B. Lamkins and Mort A. Segall filed a lawsuit Feb. 23 in Cook County Circuit Court suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and two unidentified individuals.

According to the complaint, Lamkins sustained injuries after the two unidentified individuals physically assaulted and robbed her of personal property on Nov. 24, 2014 at a Walmart in Cook County.

She accuses Walmart of failing to install functioning security cameras, provide security personnel, offer assistance to victims or warn shoppers of possible danger in the store. She also claims Walmart was aware of previous incidents and should have maintained a safer shopping environment.

Lamkins seeks actual damages of $2.5 million and exemplary damages of $10 million, plus attorney fees and costs.

Segall, Lamkins’ husband, seeks damages under his loss of consortium court, requesting actual damages of $500,000 and exemplary damages of $2 million, plus costs.

The plaintiffs are representing themselves.
