Rogers

A Cook County couple is suing over a slip sustained while walking on a city sidewalk allegedly covered with a sheet of ice.

Teresa Perez and Ranulfo Perez filed a lawsuit Feb. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Anna Marciniek and the City of Chicago.

According to the complaint, the couple was walking on the sidewalk alongside Marciniak’s home on South Kenneth Avenue on Feb. 19, 2014, when Teresa slipped and fell on ice, causing her to sustain broken bones and soft tissue damage.

The couple accuses both Marciniak and the city of allowing snow and ice to accumulate, failing to remove the dangerous condition and not inspecting and maintaining gutters and downspouts attached to Marciniak's house.

Teresa Perez seeks more than $30,000 in damages, plus attorneys fees and costs. The suit includes a loss of consortiumship count on Ranulfo Perez's behalf. They are represented by Larry R. Rogers Jr. of Power, Rogers & Smith in Chicago.
