A woman is suing an Evanson hospital, an orthopedic surgeon and his medical practice over claims of medical malpractice.
Lucyna Maruszak filed a lawsuit March 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Presence St. Francis Hospital, Dr. Ronald Silver and Orthopaedic Specialists of the North Shore.
According to the complaint, Silver performed a left total knee arthroplasty on Maruszak on April 9, 2013 at Presence St. Francis. In July 2014, Maruszak claims she was informed by a different surgeon that X-rays revealed the implant from the surgery was improperly positioned, creating a possible need for a revision arthroplasty.
Maruszak alleges Silver had cut her tibia improperly, but failed to recognize the error and completed the implant surgery. She contends his malpractice led her to sustain severe and permanent injuries, in addition to incurring additional medical bills.
Maruszak seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus attorneys fees and costs. Her suit was submitted by Eric H. Check of the Law Offices of Eric H. Check in Chicago.
