A Chicago law firm is suing a client it claims has failed to pay about a quarter of a million dollars in legal fees.

Goldberg Kohn filed suit March 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against Sovestech Inc., formerly known as Ditto Holdings Inc., and D. Jonathan Rosenberg of Buffalo Grove.

According to the complaint, a Sept. 16, 2013 resolution adopted by Ditto's board of directors appointed Rosenberg the sole member of a special committee of the board to conduct an internal investigation into matters related to Ditto raised by a board member.

Rosenberg engaged Goldberg Kohn as counsel in regards to the investigation and Ditto agreed to reimburse him for all fees and expenses incurred in fulfilling his duties with the special committee, the suit says.

The firm asserts it submitted three invoices to Rosenberg totaling $293,965.64 between November 2013 and February 2014, but contends only $44,000 has been paid. It says there is no excuse or explanation for the defendants’ failure to pay the remaining balance.

Goldberg Kohn seeks the amount it claims is owed, plus interest, attorney fees and costs. It is represented by Julie Stewart and Frederic Klein of Goldberg Kohn in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L001912.
