A woman is suing a group of medical providers she claims discharged her too soon after a kidney transplant.

Amanda Grandinetti filed suit March 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, doing business as Northwestern Medical Group, and 11 physicians.

According to the filing, Grandinetti was admitted to Northwestern for a kidney transplant on March 4, 2013. She says she was discharged on March 6, but re-admitted for swelling and decreased urinary output two days later, when she was diagnosed with post-surgical complications, indicating premature discharge following the surgery.

After being treated for a fever on March 27, 2013 at a different facility, the suit says Grandinetti was transferred back to Northwestern with acute pain at the surgical site and diagnosed with a ruptured transplant. She underwent emergency surgery to remove the rupture on March 28, 2013, the suit notes.

Grandinetti alleges the physicians and surgeons rendered incompetent medical care in conjunction with her illness, failed to provide safe post-operative care, assess and monitor her condition prior to discharge or manage her fluid intake and output appropriately.

She seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by Chicago attorneys Carl Salvato of Dalvato & O’Toole.
