A widow is suing a group of manufacturing companies over claims her husband died from mesothelioma that he contracted after being exposed to their asbestos-containing products.
Beth Hicks, individually and as estate administrator for her deceased husband Wendell Hicks, filed a lawsuit Feb. 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against A.W. Chesterton Inc., American Biltrite Inc., Certainteed Corp., Crane Co., DAP Inc. and several others.
According to the complaint, Wendell died of mesothelioma after being exposed to the defendants' asbestos-containing products between 1956 through 1979 during his employment. Hicks accuses the defendants of making and distributing products containing asbestos and failing to warn about the dangers of working around them.
Hicks seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs, and is represented by Nicholas Vogelzang of Connelly & Vogelzang in Chicago.
