A rail passenger is suing four transportation industry businesses over an escalator injury.
Howard “Gene” Biehl Sr. filed a lawsuit March 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Chicago Union Station Company, National Railroad Passenger Corporation, doing business as Amtrak, Parkway Elevators Inc., Jones Lang LaSalle Americas Inc. and Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., over an incident that took place April 18, 2013.
According to the complaint, Biehl used the descending escalator at Chicago Union Station when he suffered injuries as a direct result of erratic speeds on the escalator.
The suit states the defendants failed to properly inspect the premises, allowing a dangerous condition to develop, failed to maintain the property or remedy the hazards, neglected to warn Biehl and failed to close the escalator in question.
The plaintiff cites pain, suffering, mental anguish, medical care, disability and disfigurement, loss of wages and out of pocket expenses.
Biehl seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by attorney Anthony Elman of Elman Law Group in Chicago.
