Tenant sues landlord over injuries caused by fall

A tenant has sued his landlord after suffering injuries when he fell in 2014.

Joseph L. Scott filed a lawsuit March 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against Darnell Moore, alleging negligence.

According to a complaint, on July 4, 2014, Moore, the owner, had let the basement stairs, in the building in the 1300 block of West 99th St., Chicago, remain "unreasonably safe," as well as "dangerous and hazardous," causing Scott to fall. The suit says the carpet on the basement stairs was "not securely fastened." The fall caused Scott to be seriously injured, according to the suit.

Scott seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorney Joseph Dombrowski, of Dombrowski, Sorensen and Gigac, of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court, case number: 15-L-2460.
