A woman has sued a Cook County hospital and associated personnel, alleging liability for injuries stemming from a procedure in 2013.
Ruth Baylark filed suit March 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against defendants Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers of Evergreen Park; Dr. Rajneesh Salwan; Dr. Herme Sylora; Dr. James A. Sylora; nurse Jane Doe; Dr. Steven Pierpaoli; Dr. Kiran Dhillon; Dr. Shailender Bhatia; Dr. Steven F. Domiano; Dr. Gene E. Quirini; unknown medical personnel; Radiology Imaging Specialists; and Southwest Infectious Disease & Internal Medicine.
According to the complaint, on April 10, 2013, Baylark was treated at Little Company by doctors and staff for a urinary tract infection with sepsis and other complications. The suit states a catheterization revealed blood and failed, and ultrasounds on April 11 revealed a vulvovaginal mass, diagnosed as hydronephrosis.
According to the filing, the plaintiff’s ureter was torn during the procedure and she was not advised of any need for surgery. Staff noted ulcerations around her coccyx, anus and clitoris, the suit says, and Baylark she had to endure subsequent treatment and expense for the injuries sustained during her care. Baylark said the injuries caused prolonged physical and mental pain and suffering.
The plaintiff cites the defendants with failure to adequately evaluate, diagnose, treat, monitor, intervene and consult with the patient or provide facilities, tools and staff for her care, and alleges carelessness and individual and institutional negligence.
Baylark seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorneys James Karamanis and Kenneth Nazarian of Barney & Karamanis in Chicago.
