A man allegedly injured during a slip-and-fall accident at the Cook County Jail has sued the maintenance company charged with its upkeep.
Ian Roy filed suit April 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against the jail's unknown maintenance company.
According to the lawsuit, on March 23, 2014, Roy slipped in the hallway of the jail's District Nine. The maintenance company "carelessly and negligently caused and allowed to remain a hazardous ceiling leak which caused a liquid puddle" near the elevators, the suit states.
The company, the lawsuit states, failed to keep the hallway free of a dangerous condition, failed to warn people about the dangerous condition, and failed to repair the correct the leaking ceiling. The plaintiff alleges he suffered serious and permanent injuries.
Roy seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is is represented by attorney Cannon D. Lambert, of Karchmar and Lambert, in Chicago.
