A Riverdale woman has sued the maker of an orthopedic implant, a doctor, hospital and medical practice, citing negligence in a medical procedure.
Francine Snead filed suit April 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against Smith and Nephew Inc.; Provena St. Joseph Medical Center; Dr. Mukund Komaduri; and MK Orthopaedics, Surgery and Rehabilitation.
According to the complaint, on Nov. 11, 2011, Snead received a total right knee replacement from Komadura, using a Smith and Nephew Genesis II total knee system. The suit says Snead "experienced, and has continued to experience, severe pain and discomfort," and her medical team declared the replacement procedure had failed. A July 2014 scan of the prosthesis found similar failure.
The plaintiff cites medical expenses, severe pain and suffering, and alleges she has undergone a "lengthy and protracted" rehabilitation.
Snead seeks damages of more than $150,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney John C. Ellis of Richard J. Prendergast of Chicago.
Cook County Circuit Court case number: 15-L-3813.
