C-section infection prompts woman to sue hospital, surgeon

CHICAGO – A local woman filed suit against a hospital and surgeon, alleging malpractice in a 2013 medical incident.

Monica Dickerson filed a complaint April 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Mercy Hospital & Medical Center and Dr. Andrew Perrott, claiming liability in an April 2013 health matter allegedly arising from a recent surgical procedure.

Having had a recent C-section, Dickerson experienced bleeding from her incision and went directly to the emergency room at Mercy Hospital on or about April 14, 2013. She subsequently underwent surgery under Dr. Perrott’s care on April 26, 2013, in order to address a potential umbilical hernia.

The grievance states that the surgical site became infected and required additional hospitalization due to complications. Alleging the facility and doctor failed to provide adequate care and neglected to appropriately monitor, diagnose, treat or address her conditions during her hospitalization and transport, the plaintiff claims her additional injuries required further treatment.

Citing one count of medical malpractice against each defendant, the plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. Dickerson is being represented in the case by attorney Anthony Burch of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case no. 15-L-4351.
