Two women filed suit on behalf of a decedent’s estate against several nursing facilities for alleged liability in a 2013 health-related incident.
Rita Crockett, of Cicero, and Candy Richmond, of Glendale Heights, filed a lawsuit April 28 as co-administrators of the estate of Edward Richmond, against Maplewood Care Inc. of Elgin; SIR Management Inc. of Lincolnwood; and River View Rehab Center LLC, in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging liability in a December 2013 injury.
Edward Richmond, formerly of Cicero, died March 8, 2014. According to court documents, the decedent came under the defendants' care in October 2007 and developed bedsores in December 2013.
The lawsuit states that staff failed to take appropriate measures to prevent, and later adequately treat, his decubitus ulcers and related infections and conditions; ensure adequate nutrition; address malnutrition and dehydration; properly monitor and assess the decedent’s condition; and turn or reposition him to relieve bedsores.
The plaintiffs claim the decedent incurred medical expenses, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life and disfigurement. Citing the defendants with alleged violation of the Nursing Home Care Act, the plaintiffs seek damages of more than $50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. They are represented by attorney Brian Hetzer of Karlin, Fleisher and Falkenberg in Chicago.
